Tower of London 🇬🇧 On our last day of Spri

Tower of London 🇬🇧

On our last day of Spring Break, we squeezed in one last experience. We visited London’s iconic castle and World Heritage Site. We went on a legendary Yeoman Warders tours (tours begin near the main entrance to the Tower of London and are every 30 minutes), and saw the amazing collection of Crown Jewels. We loved learning about the stories of the former fortress, royal palace and infamous prison.

A Tower of London admission ticket includes entry to: The Crown Jewels, The White Tower, Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula, Battlements, Medieval Palace, Bloody Tower, Torture at the Tower exhibition, Fusiliers Museum and Royal Mint exhibition. If possible, pre-book a ticket and time slot online before your visit, or purchase tickets on the day from the ticket office on Tower Hill. Audio guide tours in a choice of languages are available to purchase with your tickets. Tickets are £34.80 per adult, £17.40 for 5-17 years, seniors and full time students £27.70, 4 and under visit for free.

Jason did the research to figure out the best spots and timing to watch the Changing of the Guard Ceremony! 📌 Save this info for your London visit 🇬🇧 !

10:20: Start at St James Palace, across the street from Friar’s Court, where the Old Guard (the guards coming off security detail) assemble at 10:30 and are inspected by their captain.

10:35 : The marching band forms in front of the Old Guard and begins to play a song. 🎵

10:40: Walk down the street, cross the Mall and await the march of the Band and the Old Guard.

10:43 The marching band will lead the old guard down the Mall toward Buckingham palace. As they come down the Mall you can walk alongside them as they march towards Buckingham Palace

💂 Before you get to the Queen Victoria Memorial, you’ll want to turn left, walk through the park to Wellington Barracks where you can watch the New Guard (the soldiers coming on shift to take over the security detail.) Here another division of the Marching band will be playing music before they lead the New Guard toward Buckingham Palace.

💂 Find a spot near the Queen Victoria Memorial to watch the band play at the gates of the Palace, the he Horse Guards ride by on their way to the Horse Guards Parade, and the Old Guard marching out of Buckingham palace back to St James Palace

Note: from August to May: the Queen’s guard change on Mondays , Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. June and July: daily. *it is occasionally cancelled due to rain ☔️

After our morning exploring the British Museum (4/2/24), we hopped on a @bigbustours to see more of London. We got the ticket combo that included the cruise down the Thames- which we highly recommend!

I originally wanted my boys try this trendy reel, but they didn’t want to dance so instead, our 11 year old captured the video, while our 9 year old played the music. They said we didn’t do it right, but for being in our forties… I think we did alright 😂. We don’t normally dress like this, but we just wrapped a photoshoot in Paris 🙌 #teamwork

Dishoom: the MOST consistently recommended restaur

Dishoom: the MOST consistently recommended restaurant of our London and Paris trip that actually lived up to the hype! We LOVED it and enthusiastically recommend it as a must try when visiting London 🇬🇧

Dishoom pays homage to the Irani cafés and the food of all Bombay. We ordered the following :

Appetizers: Dishoom house chaat, Okra fries , Khichia and chundo
Mains: Paneer tikka, Gunpowder potatoes, Spicy lamb chops, Chicken Ruby, House black dal
Dessert: Chai tea and Dishoom chocolate pudding with Kashmiri chili ice cream

They have 9 locations throughout London. Walk-ins are welcome but you may have to wait an hour. You can make reservations ahead of time on their website.

📍 The Roman Baths, #wongsvisitlondon 4/1/24

Bath offers stunning Georgian architecture, ancient Roman baths, and the UK’s only natural hot springs for soaking. Its easy accessibility from London (1.5 hours) makes it a popular day trip or destination. Additionally, many visitors, including our family, make a quick stop in Bath as part of a guided tour to Stonehenge.

With just two hours for our visit, we immersed ourselves in learning about, and exploring, the Roman Baths. The entry fee for adults is £25, which includes an audio tour that provides insight into the Baths’ rich history.

While the main pool showcased in this reel is stunning, the overall facilities / exhibits are expansive and impressive. This site also hosted a temple for Minerva, and exemplifies the incredible architecture and engineering of the Roman Empire.

This experience is very family-friendly. We highly recommend stopping here if you’re on a trip to London!

For the hot spring lovers out there : While you can’t bathe here, you can enjoy the naturally hot, mineral-rich waters in town at Thermae Bath Spa!

🪨 Stonehenge, UK. April 1 2024

Tip: If you’re considering visiting Stonehenge - an ancient monumental ring of stones and UNESCO World Heritage Site - I highly recommend booking an INNER CIRCLE experience! Trust me, it’s worth the ⏰ 4:45 am wake-up call and 11 hour day trip 🚌 from London (including stops in Lacock and Bath). Being able to walk among the ancient stones was incredible! Swipe to vicariously experience the inner circle at sunrise, through our photos and videos.

Here’s what you need to know:
- The regular Stonehenge tours keeps you at a distance, and often come with long lines, large crowds and limited viewing time.
- In comparison, the Inner Circle tour lets you get up close to the stones in a small group of around 15 people.
- Inner Circle experiences are offered when the site is closed to the general public. Tickets are very limited and only available on certain days. The sunrise tour is most Mondays and Thursdays, an the sunset tour is most Sundays and Wednesdays
- Be sure to book well in advance! Though you can try your luck getting a last minute cancellation spot.
- You can access the inner circle experience via a tour operator (we booked with Premier Tours) or you can purchase the special access tickets directly through the English Heritage website
- respect the monument and do not touch the stones , leave no trace!

Additional Tip: consider staying at Millennium Gloucester Hotel the night before for easy boarding at 5:20am. The bus waits for no one. With kids and jet lag, it was nice to roll out of bed and walk out the door to catch the bus. We used this hotel as a reasonably priced and home base for our 3 nights in London.

📌 Save this info for a unique tea experience when visiting London!

Our family’s first stop after arriving in London was the Science Afternoon Tea, which doubled as our dinner (since it was 6 pm). This themed tea was not only fun and unique, but also very delicious!

Our boys had a blast with the interactive elements, including the “science experiment” to concoct their custom flavored lemonades, decorating scones with various toppings and infusing macaroons with berry sauce using syringes. They also enjoyed the finale of excavating chocolate dinosaurs out of a little box with cookie crumble dirt!

I highly recommend this experience for anyone - adults and/ or kids- who is looking for a whimsical and special approach to afternoon tea!

Tip: We shared three adult teas among the four of us.

Sharing a reminder to bring your tripod and nice camera sometimes!

We took family photos using a tripod @peakdesign and remote for my @sonyalpha camera. After seeing and appreciating how my son framed the previous family pics (a few posts back with the white and purple flower foreground), I incorporated some wispy flowers in these pics as well.

We positioned ourself on the barren sandy wash, making sure #noflowerswereharmed and set the camera fairly low so that we’d appear amidst the flowers. Sharing some other pics I took from this beautiful afternoon in this series as well💛

I’ve heard that this area is past peak bloom and won’t last much longer as the heat and caterpillars move in. This spring’s blooms seem to occurring later than previous years and it’s unclear whether there will be much of a superbloom anywhere else. But keep your eye out for more flowers over the next few weeks include Carrizo Plain, the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve and various parks throughout California.

When appreciating the wonder of nature, please remember to stay on trails and off of the flowers, follow local rules re dogs/ drones etc, and leave no trace.

When I proposed a last minute weekend trip to Anza Borrego to see the spring 🌼wildflowers, I asked my kids and my parents (ages 8 to 76) if they wanted to stay in a hotel, or camp. We’ve had a busy month and I thought they might want the comforts and convenience of a hotel room, but to my pleasant surprise - Everyone voted to camp! We had a fun time unplugging and hanging out at our campsite - eating s’mores around our campfire, stargazing, scooting and playing together!

We’ve come a long way from the first multigenerational glamping trip when our youngest son was 3 months old. Over the past 8 years, as we’ve figured out tent camping , car camping , discovered cool campsites and glamping options - we’ve shared our camping tips, gear and guides on our blog www.everydayadventurefam.com and via the hashtag #wongsgocamping

If you are visiting wildflowers this spring, please remember to be careful where you step, stay on trails / barren sand, don’t pick the flowers (but take lots of pictures!) and leave no trace. You can get this “admist the flowers” photo effect when sitting in barren sand by shooting from a low perspective (swipe to last slide to see).

If you’re going for the “admist the flowers” shot, there is absolutely no need to sit, lay, or step on flower fields. Instead, stay on the path / barren ground near them and then shoot from a lower angle. Frame your shot with wildflowers in the foreground. California wildflower season is just getting started this spring! This area may be at peak or slightly past peak, but it’s still worth planning a trip to Anza Borrego as there are still flowers here and are different flowers throughout this park. I’ve heard the bloom is good in some parts of Joshua Tree as well, and is getting started in other areas in LA and Riverside County. Things are looking promising up in Carrizo Plain too! It’s still a bit early to say how the poppies will be at Antelope Valley.

If you are visiting wildflowers, please remember to be careful where you step, stay on trails, don’t pick the flowers (but take lots of pictures! :) and leave no trace.
